I produced this song for Boosca, a local rapper, captain of the football team, and long time friend. This song was intended to be the "hype song" for the River Hill High School Football team and it was played after the National Anthem at every single game after it was released. When making the song, I acted as the producer in the sense that I made the beat and I also ran the studio session and gave suggestions to Boosca on his performance and delivery. The beat combines the ancient hip hop art of sampling and the modern trap beat with stuttering hi-hats and 808's.
This is the first single I released under the pseudonym Suburban Lumberjack. I take a lot of influence from dream pop bands like Beach House and Melody's Echo Chamber. I wrote the lyrics for the chorus and my friend Ezra wrote the lyrics for the verse. I know he drew a lot of influence from the writing style of Frank Ocean. When I sing the chorus, I draw from the way Joshua Homme sings on the Queens of the Stone Age album "...Like Clockwork."
